Android Market Experiences 10 Billion App Downloads

Android Marketplace experienced 10 billion total app downloads today. And not just that, Google also confirmed that monthly 1 billion numbers are getting added to the statistics of downloaded apps. Initially growth was slow for Android with taking 20 months for 1 billion app downloads from Android Market. They hit next billion in 6 months and in last 7 months, the download number has grown by 7 billions! Google replied on this stats stating its rapid sell of 500k Android devices daily that has helped create a boost.

However, Apple is still leading the app market with 20 billion total downloads. If Android Market's downlaod growth rate to be considered, it is still a long journey for Android to compete with Apple. Apple has also rolled  out premium apps of worth $3 billion so far. Google has no leading edge on this front though.

On this happy occasion, Google has decided to team up with developers offering them new set of worthy applications for 10 cent each that usually cost something between 99 cents to $7.

One thing to be noted here is that Android being open source, users can download third party apps to their devices like Amazon App that can be installed in any Android gadget. Also, manufacturers can load up Android devices with their custom apps. So to download an Android app there are other sources than Android Market.

This growth of Android Market will surely boost creation of newer apps frequently making Market more and more rich. Time will decide the winner of app race.
